It’s alright that I take a while
Left behind—I am beguiled
I’m waiting to find it
Prosperity promised
Blacktop burns the palms of my hands
As I earn my place in the land
I’m lagging behind them
As I stand beside them
Oh, I’m never gonna get to sleep easy
Oh, I’ll never get the rest I need in the end

The Lives of Others
04:09
|
|||
Peering into the lives of others
Passing by to see another vestige of a pleasantry
Standing there and haunting me
Windows into darkened rooms
Filled as if they were a tomb for everything I ever wanted
Everything I need to see
Why do I have to change my mind
Just so I can pass the time
Drown it all and step aside
Until I reach the end of the night
I call up and join the folks I feel like I should know
But then I choke upon the syllables
At the least the ones that I could form
Before that fear came back to me,
Stole the confidence right out my hands
And left me floundering
Wishing I could just go home
I spend another seven bucks
Just to empty out the cup
Into my body now possessed
By forces out of my control
And even after all this time I know that I’m still out of line
Why does it all feel so unnatural?

Until the Years
03:19
|
|||
Waiting idly by
Til the moment’s nigh
When I’ll reach out and try
To hold it
But weakness fills my hand
As the moment ends
Before I even knew that it happened at all
Over and over again
Til the years become my friends
Over and over again
Til I’ve paid my mortal dividend
Time it floods the land
As the story ends
Before I even knew that it happened at all

Wind is Falling
04:58
|

There is a final peace
Acting like a breeze
Blowing up the leaves in us all
And when the day does come
The shifting winds have gone
And motion is for once a memory
Take our lives away

Consequence
03:04
|
|||
Heavy was the moment
The moment I knew
All sorrow is
Consequence of goodness
The balancing act will never rest here
Calling out the answers
Will not change the questions
That we long to ask
And if we knew the answers
What then would fill the frame of the past?
What can I do?

Geological Discovery

Someday you will see me in Antarctica
Walking down the barren icy plain
Searching til I find a meteor come down
And take it back with me in my sea plane
Cause a stone that I own
Is the closest I will come
To the things I can see
From the hole that I dug myself
I can force myself to learn a million things
Filling in the gaps I feel
But knowing more is learning that you don’t know much
And you’ll never be sure what’s real
Cause a stone that I own
Is the closest I will come
To the things I can see
From the hole that I dug myself
Am I free to believe
That the closest I will be
To the things I can see
Is still just a mystery?

Isn’t it strange to be here in this narrow window
Borne of stone and water
A carbon calamity will fall to stillness
A death beyond reason
For the rest of time
Nihilism lurks behind to fill in the gaps
Created by collapse of ego
Isn’t it strange to be here in this narrow window
The death of all reason
For the rest of time

Cut the Lights Out
06:56
|
|||
Wind is falling
And across the line
I see the sunbeam
Feeling it appear with time
This is over
This is all I know
Death upon us
The evidence is starting to show
Placid and vacant, on the ground I lie
An observing threat
And I can wait for time to pass me by
Staying here and watching it die
I’m staying here and watching it die
I’m staying here and letting it die
Like it should
